Assessment 2.0 in Higher Education: From Authorship Control to Legitimate Evidence of Learning

Generative AI does not merely introduce a new tool into higher education; it challenges the legitimacy of assessment itself. Universities are expected to certify individual competence, protect academic integrity, and prepare students for professional and civic responsibility. Yet in a time where essays, presentations, literature reviews, or code can be produced through human/AI collaboration, the final output alone can no longer serve as reliable evidence of learning.

This lecture presents Assessment 2.0 as a shift from suspicion, prohibition, and detection toward a more transparent and meaningful model of evidencing competence. It argues that fair assessment in the GenAI era must connect three dimensions. Normative question of what higher education should guarantee, methodological question of what counts as valid evidence of learning, and justice-oriented question of who can succeed under transparent and equitable conditions. The future of assessment will not be built on the illusion of pure authorship, but on the ability to make human understanding, judgement, responsibility, and disciplinary reasoning visible.
